Gadget list is complete
•November 18, 2007 • 1 CommentYou can now load gadgets from the gadget list into the editor and position them. Still gotta add a few more gadgets but i got the basic method of doing so dialed. It’s looking pretty cool now.
Will continue to add more section pieces which in turn adds variation into the levels. I can hopefully add some more variations of existing gadgets. Like a 9 turreted turret for starters.
The 2 screenies above show the section list, the sections spawned, the gadget list and gadgets spawned. Hopefully i can get it finished soon.
Level Editor nearly complete
•November 11, 2007 • Leave a CommentNew direction
In the beginning i was going to make all the levels in a 3D editor and save to .x format to be loaded up later in the game engine. This was a pretty foolish idea, as i found out after i tried making levels in a 3D modeler :/ I mean it’s not impossible but it’s hard, slow and frustrating to say the least. So i got my half finished terrain editor (which i will be finishing soon) and was able to recycle a lot of code out of it. I had a Gui that i could simply alter and use for the new editor, this saved me a hell of a lot of time.
Where i am now
The level editor is basically complete now, although i keep adding more sections to it. I am so glad i made this editor because i can now create levels very rapidly and easily. This also means i can ask other people to make levels for me. It may be released with the game so people can share levels with each other over the internet too.
To sum up what i have just said, level projects can be made, saved, and exported directly into the game engine and then played. Now working on making the “Gadget Tab”. Which will be a list box of all the available gadgets listed in it. I can then place gadgets in the level and they will be loaded into the game engine.
Wont be long now before i can release the game i hope
From this point onward
- Keep adding feature to the level editor
- Finish the gadgets menu
- Finish the editor itself!
- Make about 100 levels
- Tidy up and polish existing game features
- Get a few testers to play about with it and give feed back
- Tidy up and polish for second time, maybe add more feature to game and editor (e.g. new gadgets)
- Test again
- Release
Shouldn’t take more than 2 months now but it’s not like i have been working full time on it anyway. I would guess anywhere from 2-4 months until completion.
Started game interface
•October 29, 2007 • Leave a CommentOk i started working on the game interface, you can now collect stars and the counter at the side of the screen will go up 1 for each star you collect. If anyone here can help out with the graphics for such a thing i would be well chuffed. I’m gonna have a bash at this myself but i am not the best at 2D so i’ll post what i have designed later and if anyone thinks they can do better then i would love to hear from you.
Going to add in the starting position and finish position also. Then hopefully make a few basic levels and get them cycling round (complete level, progress to next).
Apart from a star counter box, what other stuff should i add do you think? I’ll add in a bullet time meter but i was wondering if there is some other stuff i should add? This might seem like a dumb question but i haven’t been able to step back, take a look and figure these things out.
Ideas/suggestions welcome
Loading/Saving complete. Need 3D artists!
•October 28, 2007 • 1 CommentGadgets can now be saved and loaded back up with the level. This means i can start creating the levels and adding gadgets in as they will now be loaded back up when the level is loaded. Now going to commence the rapid creation of levels and this is going to take up the most amount of time and effort. I would prefer to try and get a team of artists together that can model in 3D and be creative with the gadgets that are in the game. Some levels need to be kinda puzzley and some more fast paced or a combination of the both.
Hopefully i can post some screens of the first few levels within the coming days.
